 Executive Summary

This documents aims to introduce the new turbo-pumping-system named “TPS-compact”. The New TPS-Compact is a portable, fully-integrated pumping system powered by the Varian Turbo-V81 MacroTorr or TV301  turbo-molecular pump backed by the dry-scroll IDP3 (60 l/min – very low base pressure of less than 250 milliTorr). Additionally, this memo also announces the obsolescence of the Task and thus information useful in cross referencing old to new part numbers is included. Finally, TPS-compact positioning information is provided in order to understand the position of the TPS-compact and its competitors and MiniTak AG81 and its competitors.

1.      THE NEW TPS-COMPACT

The new Varian Vacuum Technology TPS-compact is part of the new generation of TPSs of Varian Vacuum Technology.  TPS-Compact follows the design concept of the Mini-Task AG81 becoming a strategic product for the entire TPS product line. The TPS-Compact is innovative, well designed, fully assembly assembled, simple to be managed, oil-free and ready-to-operate UHV at a very competitive price offering low ownership costs.  The TPS-compact can become mobile by simply screwing 4 wheels under the cover case.

TPS-Compact tip-seal maintenance

In order to make the “life-simple” to Varian customers, the TPS-Compact is designed in a such way that it allows an easy, simple and straightforward tip-seal replacement of the dry-scroll IDP3 located inside the cover.

The cover can be simply opened by unscrewing two screws (cross-head)

 It is very simple to replace the tip-seal when the TPS-Compact is open thanks to the accessibility.

 The display will show a message “Tip-seal service” when Tip-seal needs changing.

The DIY Gauge EyeSys Kit can be ordered separately and it has all the components needed to assemble a TEE (as per inlet flange specification) above the TMP and to connect the gauge with the TPS-Compact.

The New DIY Full Range Gauge KIT is formed with all the hardware needed to have a TEE (with the same flange of the TMP) and the Gauge (gauge flange will be CFF or KF according to TMP flange type) as the DIY EyeSys Gauge KIT

The new full range gauge is a combined gauge which can read from atmosphere to 5x10-9mbar.  

The full range gauge is a combined gauge made by a Pirani and a Cold cathode ignited gauges.

4.                        TPS-Compact has an IP3 as a backing pump yet TPS-Bench has a SH110 as a backing pump. Varian strongly suggests to push the TPS-Compact when possible.

TPS-COMPACT

• This product has been designed as a complete solution where single sub items are not meant to be replaceable in the field. Maintenance aspects are addressed as shown in the previous chapter under “TPS-Compact tip-seal maintenance”.

There are (4) levels of service:

• Customer maintenance with tip seal kit for minor IDP3 Scroll maintenance
• Factory repair
• Advanced exchange program
• Upgrade program

The upgrade from MiniTask, Task, Mini-station and Bench-stack to TPS-Compact is under preparation. Details follow in a new release of the MM366 to be launched soon.
